ADHD Expert to Talk at RCDS
ADHD Expert to Share Innovative Strategies with RCDS Parents and Faculty
Dr. Esta Rapoport, an assistant professor of special education at The College of New Rochelle, knows a thing or two about ADHD and how it affects children. She’s researched the topic for decades and in the process has found that by integrating a number of innovative strategies and techniques, children can overcome the social skills difficulties that are a common trait of this commonly diagnosed disorder.
On Thursday, October 29, Dr. Rapoport, who recently authored the book, “ADHD and Social Skills: A Step-by-Step Guide for Teachers and Parents,” will visit Rockland Country Day School to discuss with parents and faculty the social interaction problems and social skills impairments that are lacking in such children, in addition to recounting the real-life experiences of average people living with the effects of ADHD.
During her lecture, Dr. Rapoport will also discuss the 52 real-life instructional tips outlined in her 235-page book. They include ways to help children initiate conversations with others, maintain eye contact, join in playful situations, and respond appropriately to compliments.
According to the National Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately seven percent of all children in the United States are diagnosed with ADHD. Dr. Rapoport’s message to the RCDS audience will be one of hope and optimism for a better understanding of ADHD, including more meaningful ways to help children cope with this disorder.
Dr. Rapoport’s talk to the public will take place at 7:00 p.m. in the Pennypacker Library at Rockland Country Day School.
