Rockland Country Day School has long been a center for arts education in the metropolitan area. The school’s mission is to focus on the individual while developing a student’s creative expression and artistic growth and skill levels. The development of perception and imagination is combined with an awareness of visual elements, principals of design, and creative vision.
Our faculty members, many of whom are working artists, challenge students in all grades to daily discover new creative expression while moving towards technical mastery. RCDS students are grounded in the historical underpinnings of art, music, and theater. Student creativity is sustained with concert bands, songwriting classes, string ensembles, and the Blue Light Cafe - a performance vehicle for students' original work.
The studio art department is unparalleled. Along with offering acting classes, musicals, and classical drama productions in the outdoor amphitheater, RCDS also offers a state-of-the-art photo lab for traditional and digital photography and a summer arts camp.
In addition to our many concert events and art shows, we host poetry slams, jazz events and a battle-of-the-bands as well as chamber music recitals and master classes with top professionals in the arts. With research and creative writing integral to every class at every level, each division of the school publishes a literary magazine to which all students are expected to submit poetry or prose during their academic career.
